Business Owners
Half Day Workshop
Helping business owners, executives & managers think and act like ‘Businesspeople’; and protecting them from others who may want to take advantage of their lack of finance skills or acumen.
Workshop Outline
I have compassion for business owners, executives and managers who are so brilliant at what they do on a day to day basis – but do not understand the financial side of how business works. The normal operations of their day is the exciting part for these people. I understand that.
However, not understanding the financial side of the business puts them at a definite disadvantage. Running a business by simply looking at the bottom line of the monthly Profit & Loss Statement – or worse still, by looking at the daily bank balance and suppliers’ outstandings sends a shiver down my spine.
There are many people who run businesses, who own business and are involved in managing businesses. Yet, how many can really claim to being ‘Businesspeople’. There is a distinct difference.
I suspect that many of these brilliant business operators aren’t involved in the financial side of the business because no-one trained them early in their career in this aspect; or nobody explained the importance of it; or they feel it’s too complicated to understand; or that they think this is boring – I’d rather be doing the deals instead.
For those executives who responded to my willingness over the years to assist their understanding of the finance side, they end up changed people. They start acting more businesslike, they feel empowered because they understand their businesses better and they are less likely to be at the mercy of those who prey on executives or managers who are quick to sign off on a deal, commitment or contract.
Over many decades as an accountant, I have seen way too many problems arising from businesses that do not pay sufficient attention to the financial side of things. They may use outside accountants but it amazes me that there is a lack of discussion and education for the business owner. Just as ridiculous, there are businesses with internal qualified accountants where CEO’s and managers fail to use and take advantage of these expensive but valuable resources.
Our training can help you work towards becoming a Businessperson in the true sense of the word.
What a difference becoming a Businessperson will make. I have seen business owners who for the first time in their lives have taken an interest in the actual business side of things. Once they cross that bridge, it’s a new world. They become truly interested in how their business operates from a finance perspective. They become excited about their newfound knowledge and confidence. This new confidence brings with it a changed outlook on the future of their business.
